I started trading in the futures market in 2012, almost 12 years ago, at a commodities trading competition in Chicago. Different universities trade against each other to see who is the best S&P 500 futures trader and who just put a cool flag out there. And our school in Georgia was ranked 4th in the entire country, so I know a little about futures trading. Then I went on to trade futures professionally at a couple of companies, so I’ll tell you now if you’ve done it before. I’m interested in trading futures as a Forex trader or shares.

Institutional Forex trading

I suggest you add it as one of the tradable assets you are exposed to daily because there is a lot of opportunity in the last big futures trade that I and some of the friends above that the trader took is trading cobalt in 2022. You have to understand that futures are made up of Two different types of futures products you have commodity futures and you have financial futures.

Commodity futures in Forex

Commodity futures are divided into three distinct parts where you have agricultural futures. Energy futures, metal futures, and financial futures are divided into three distinct parts: index futures, currency futures, interest rate futures, and each of these different tradable futures products. It has various pros and cons, and you will understand what is happening in that market differently.

For example, if you want to be an expert in agricultural futures, you can start playing this game at the same time. Many people like to trade index futures, where you can get your Dow Jones and Minis data and these different things. For example, I mentioned a cobalt business we acquired in 2022, and we were aware that cobalt prices would go up because we like to focus on metals.

We also like to focus on index futures, and of course, we trade currencies, but we mainly trade currencies on the Spock market with currency brokers like Oanda or even Think or Swim Now. What happened in 2022 was amazing because you saw this massive increase in electric car prices. I bought a Tesla, all my friends bought a Tesla, and everyone is converting their cars to electric cars instead of gas cars or whatever.

Because of this, cobalt prices are rising because the main component of lithium-ion batteries is cobalt. You can only create the type of batteries used in electric cars with cobalt.

And you have an interest in trading futures. In that case, you can take advantage of these huge increases in supply and demand on a consistent monthly basis because that’s how often these trades appear. Still, you must understand the basics behind the movements of these futures because this drives all futures movements, and that’s why we create Best Traders to help traders learn how to use the fundamentals and how to trade them alongside these different types of assets.

Forex futures trading platforms

If you want to trade these futures within a particular platform, there are three platforms you should consider and have interactive brokers. These are not discount brokers; you usually have to get a price on top of the margin requirements to start interacting with uh future products on these platforms. For example, it may take up to $10,000 in margin to open a trade with some future products.

You will find interactive brokers, and at the same time, there are discount brokers like Tradeofit Ninja Trader and Trade Station, which only require a small margin to open trades. I will say that Trade of8 has had some recent issues, but it is the most popular discount broker in the game.

Forex and the economic cycle

It all depends on the economic cycle and what the fundamental catalyst is driving certain future prices at any given moment. So, the way I trade is using fundamentals, and I think most asset prices change in value based on the fundamental catalyst. For example, what happened with Nvidia occurred due to a societal change in technological adoption processes that have led to higher. Nvidia is not working because of the same technical analysis that we see happening now.

For example, cryptocurrency was rising at all-time highs because BlackRock had just released futures products, allowing large institutions to start trading the type on top of Bitcoin. The same thing happens if you look at something like the Japanese yen; the Japanese yen is falling off a cliff, not because of some technology.

But because they haven’t raised interest rates and their monetary policy is collapsing, the same situation can be achieved in futures for this asset class, where if you care about the fundamentals, you can get huge trades. Futures also work slightly differently than Forex in terms of the contract structure with Forex.

Summary

There may be a forex broker that you’ve been thinking about. Forex brokers are always going down and coming back up and all this crazy stuff, so I think, again, futures are one of the strongest markets. Learning how to trade them is not very complicated. You have to make sure that you Trade using the right platform.
